His eyes were glued to the television. The match between KKR and MI had just began. For him, it was not just a match between his favourite team and Mumbai Indians but it was his chance to win the bet which Nitya had challenged her to. Given the bong guy he was and the Marathi girl she was, anyone could say that they wouldn’t match well but that was not done in this case. They were admirably well matched and their love for each other never ran out. So, he made biriyani for the three of them and sat to watch the match since he knew his daughter would return from tuition after 1 hour and Nitya would return from her office after 3 hours as she had night shift.

5 minutes later, the doorbell rang. He answered it and was surprised to see Mini, his daughter. Before he could ask anything, she ran towards the washroom crying and locked herself. He went towards the washroom and knocked. After a lot of knocking and asking her to come out, he asked the obvious,”Mini, have you got your periods?” Mini opened the door. Her eyes were all red and she nodded. He went inside Nitya’s room and brought a dress alongwith a box of sanitary napkins for her. He handed them to her, held her hand and said,”This is normal,okay?” She changed and came out. She hugged him and said,”Dad, they humiliated me in tuition for the stain on my dress.” He replied,”They don’t know the beauty of it that is why they humiliate. I know and that is why I bought this for you.” He handed her red velvet ice-cream.

Next morning, he found a Post-it note stuck on the refrigerator which read,”You lost yesterday’s bet but I must say you have won my heart once again. You have been a great father but you proved that you are the best father by handling Mini’s emotion so well yesterday. You are the best father, husband and son one could ever have. P.S.- The biriyani you made yesterday tasted as good as you made it during our stay together in college days. –Nitya”
